2025 Ralph Cohen Prize Winner Announced

Hearty congratulations to Thomas W. Howard, whose essay “Anesthetic Reading: Ether, Nitrous Oxide, and Nineteenth-Century Interpretation” has won the 2025 Ralph Cohen Prize from New Literary History. Currently teaching at Bilkent University (Ankara, Türkiye), his research focuses on nineteenth-century American literature, literature and science, and the environmental humanities. The essay will be published in an upcoming issue of New Literary History.

Named for the founding editor of New Literary History, the annual Ralph Cohen Prize recognizes distinguished work by early career scholars in literary and cultural studies. Eligibility requirements and the call for submissions can be found on the NLH website.
